Attention, all alumni and current department faculty, residents, and fellows! We need your help to tell future trainees about the excellence of our top-tier residency program and continue to attract and recruit the best residents.

We are proud to host the 17th Annual Pennsylvania Anesthesiology Resident Research Conference (PARRC) on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Herberman Conference Center at UPMC Shadyside! The event will showcase the research and talent of Pennsylvania residents from the seven residency programs across the state.

The Journal of Graduate Medical Education article “Do Lower Costs for Applicants Come at the Expense of Program Perception? A Cross-Sectional Survey Study of Virtual Residency Interviews” was spotlighted as a JGME Article of the Week in the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s January 9th e-communication.

They were selected by the American Society of Anesthesiologists Committee on Practice Management to receive the Emerging Leaders Scholarship for ASA ADVANCE 2023: The Anesthesiology Business Event, January 27-29 in Orlando, FL.

The article “Case Highlights Way to Avoid Lead Fractures with Dorsal Root Ganglion Stimulation” in the November 2022 issue of Pain Medicine News features work presented at the American Academy of Pain Medicine 2022 Annual Meeting.

An Educational Seed Grant proposal from Mackenzie Noonan Haase, MD, and mentor Steven L. Orebaugh, MD, entitled "Developing, Implementing, and Testing a VR Simulation to Teach Peripheral Nerve Blockade” was accepted for full funding ($8,000) for the one-year support period starting July 1, 2022, and ending June 30, 2023. 

Our residents organized a book club last month focused on the recently published fiction book The Stairs on Billy Buck Hill authored by our faculty member, Steven L. Orebaugh, MD. Participating residents, faculty, and staff from our department purchased copies of the book in advance, and Dr. Orebaugh donated proceeds from the book sale to Light of Life, an organization that provides community...

Our Residency Program is excited to announce the recipients of the 2021-2022 Outstanding Clinical Resident Awards and Faculty Teaching Awards, which were presented during the 2022 Resident and Fellow Graduation Ceremony held on June 10th, 2022. 

Per tradition, our residents presented a robust volume of their scholarly work.
