Dr. Lieu Tran Named Combined Pediatrics Anesthesiology Residency Program Director

"Headshot of Doctor Tran"Congratulations to Lieu Tran, MD, who has been named Director of our Combined Pediatrics Anesthesiology Residency Program, effective July 1, 2023.

Dr. Tran completed her pediatric and anesthesiology residency training followed by a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at UPMC. She joined the faculty of our department and was appointed Associate Program Director of our Combined Pediatrics Anesthesiology Residency in 2019.

Dr. Tran is board-certified in general pediatrics, general anesthesiology, and pediatric anesthesiology. She maintains dual Pitt faculty appointments in both the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine and serves as an active liaison between our two core residency programs and leadership.

She is a member of various national organizations, including the Society for Education in Anesthesia (SEA), the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), and the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA). She also provides fundamental simulation-based anesthesiology education to trainees at the University of Pittsburgh Winter Institute for Simulation, Education, and Research (WISER).

Dr. Tran frequently lectures in the morning didactic curriculum during resident pediatric anesthesiology rotations, providing education on fundamental pediatric anesthesiology topics, facilitating resident presentations, and serving as a mock oral examiner at the end of the rotations. Her educational efforts, both clinical and non-clinical, have resulted in a teaching award from the anesthesiology residents in her first year as an attending faculty member.

"Headshot of Doctor Davis"We express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to outgoing Program Director Peter J. Davis, MD, for his exemplary service and dedication to the program since its inception in July 2015. Dr. Davis will continue to be involved in residency recruitment and programmatic evaluation and ensure continuity for Dr. Tran’s seamless transition into program leadership.

Thank you to both Dr. Tran and Dr. Davis for your continued commitment to the academic development of our residents.
