Our Chair's Distinction in Anesthesiology Knowledge Awards are presented throughout the year to residents who achieve top-ranking national scores on American Board of Anesthesiology examinations and Anesthesiology Knowledge Tests.
Our chief residents are selected each academic year following a thorough and collaborative selection process led by our Recruitment and Selection Committee.
This award is presented annually to faculty members who demonstrate exceptional dedication to resident education. Recipients are selected based on a combination of resident-provided teaching evaluation scores and direct resident voting in recognition of their outstanding contributions to clinical teaching.

Our Residency Faculty Teacher of the Year Award is presented annually, recognizing a faculty member who demonstrates exceptional commitment to teaching, mentorship, and the professional development of our resident trainees.
Presented annually to recognize our Most Productive or Best Resident Scholar, this award honors exceptional scholarly achievement during residency, including research productivity, academic engagement, and contributions to advancing knowledge in anesthesiology.
This resident peer-selected award recognizes outstanding excellence in teaching. Recipients are chosen annually by our UPMC Anesthesiology residents.
The Dr. Robert L. Willenkin Award is given annually to the best fourth-year University of Pittsburgh medical student in recognition of their outstanding knowledge, technical skill, and scholarly excellence in the field of anesthesiology.
The Peter M. Winter Award for Medical Student Teaching Excellence is presented annually to a faculty member who demonstrates exceptional commitment to our medical student education program and who is distinguished by consistently high teaching evaluations from medical students.
