Hsing-Hua Sylvia Lin, MS, PhD

  • Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine

Dr. Lin is a faculty member with expertise in epidemiology and biostatistics in the University of Pittsburgh Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. She leads the statistical team for our Clinical and Translational Research Center on grant development, statistical analysis, and data and safety monitoring for clinical trials. Dr. Lin is proficient in epidemiological methodology with independent research and quantitative analytical skills. She has more than 10 years of research experience in study design, data processing, data quality control, statistical analysis, data interpretation, manuscript preparation, multicenter clinical trials, and large real-world electronic health records. Throughout her career, Dr. Lin has collaborated with multidisciplinary experts and scientists on various research projects funded by NIH. These experiences have demonstrated her capability to facilitate multicenter complex protocols, carry out studies successfully, and produce impactful and influential research outcomes in the health sciences.

Dr. Lin’s research interests include clinical trials, pain management, chronic liver diseases, glaucoma, health disparities, child maltreatment, patient-reported outcomes, and causal inference methods in population health.

Research Grants

Reduction of opioid requirement associated with Auriculo-nerve stimulation following open surgery 1R01DA054513, 2022-2026, National Institute on Drug Abuse. This randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial aims to investigate if the NSS-2 Bridge Device® will be an effective opioid-sparing tool in patients undergoing open surgery.
