UPMC Anesthesiology Residents Join the 2025 ASA-Lifebox Resident Challenge

Lifebox was founded by the people who created the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist. Since 2011, Lifebox has worked in 116 countries, trained more than 14,400 healthcare providers, and made surgery safer for 248 million patients. This work spans improving anesthesia safety – including capnography and pulse oximetry – reducing surgical infection through their Clean Cut program, and strengthening surgical teamwork.

By joining this challenge, we are showing our commitment to making safe anesthesia accessible to everyone, everywhere. We are asking for your support to help send pulse oximeters and capnographs to low-resource operating rooms worldwide.

Did You Know?

  • 5 out of 7 people globally lack access to safe surgery.
  • Over 4 million people die annually from complications arising from surgery.
  • Half of these deaths are preventable.

Your donation can help deliver lifesaving equipment and training. Every contribution helps ensure safer surgeries and better outcomes and goes directly to support Lifebox. To learn more about Lifebox and their programs, visit lifebox.org.

To support our residents and this fundraising campaign, please donate to the UPMC Anesthesiology Residency team. Together, we can help bring safe anesthesia to those who need it most.

Thank you for your generosity and support!
