Quratulain Samoon, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Cardiovascular Anesthesiology at UPMC Altoona, has received the Heart Hall of Fame Award from the American Heart Association (AHA).
Dr. Samoon is the 11th individual to be inducted into the AHA’s Heart Hall of Fame, an honor recognizing a healthcare professional who goes above and beyond in the fight against heart disease and stroke. This award is reserved for individuals deeply committed to improving the health and lives of community members — particularly in Blair County — through active involvement in cardiovascular care, implementation of innovative practices, and dedication to personalized patient care. Dr. Samoon’s nomination highlighted her transformative impact on cardiovascular care at UPMC Altoona:
"Dr. Samoon is a passionate cardiac anesthesiologist who, since joining the department, has been instrumental in improving the care of a large population of critically ill patients. Her expertise has allowed many patients to receive life-saving interventions locally, without needing to travel. She has played a pivotal role in the success of the cardiac surgery and structural heart programs, often going above and beyond—working on her days off, transporting patients, and staying past her shifts to ensure optimal outcomes.”
The AHA will formally recognize Dr. Samoon at the Blair Go Red for Women event on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM ET at the Blair County Convention Center in Altoona, PA.
