CRNAs Organize Surprise “Pay it Forward” Lunch for UPMC Passavant Medical & Surgical Intensive Care Units

A group of CRNAs from UPMC Passavant, Mercy, Presbyterian, and Shadyside and the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, led by Emily M. Whitco, MSN, CRNA (UPMC Passavant), united to organize a surprise lunch for the staff caring for COVID patients in Passavant’s Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Units (MSICU) and staff in collaborating departments such as respiratory, physical, and occupational therapy. Local businesses contributed giveaways from Board & Brush Pittsburgh North, Chick-fil-A McKnight Rd., Kiki's Beauty Bar, Philly Pretzel Factory Ross Township, Renee Piatt Jewelry, and The Sol Collective Aspinwall. An overnight package for the Hilton Garden Market Square with a $150 gift card to Revel was also donated to the units to raffle off. The surprise lunch included a “Rainbow Encouragement Chain” created by the Surgical Services Staff at Passavant and Healthcare Heroes Cards made by children from the second grade at Scott Primary Elementary School. The MSICU staff members rotated throughout the conference room to enjoy the cards and Rainbow Chain amidst their incredibly busy day.
