Celebrating the Residency Class of 2025

A group of 25 people dressed in formal and semi-formal attire pose for a group photo on a grand marble staircase with ornate railings. The group includes both men and women, smiling and standing in multiple rows, suggesting a celebratory or professional event in an elegant setting.

We hosted our 2025 Anesthesiology Residency Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, May 31, at the historic Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel. The evening brought together residents, faculty, and guests to honor the accomplishments of the graduating class and to recognize exceptional contributions in education and clinical practice.

The program began with a cocktail reception and group photo, followed by welcoming remarks from Phillip Adams, DO, FASA, Residency Program Director. Dr. Adams celebrated the residents’ achievements and acknowledged the vital support from families, faculty, and departmental staff. He reflected on the rigor of our residency program, noting its standing among the top anesthesiology residencies nationwide, with over 2,000 applicants annually for a select number of positions.

Dr. Adams highlighted the notable contributions of the Class of 2025, who collectively logged over 11,500 hours of clinical training per resident, managed more than 30,000 patients, authored 23 peer-reviewed publications and six book chapters, and delivered 89 conference presentations, earning multiple accolades.

The evening also included remarks from David G. Metro, MD, FASA, Interim Executive Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs and Senior Vice Chair for Education, and the formal awarding of diplomas by Drs. Adams, Residency Associate Program Director Elizabeth Ungerman, MD, MS, D.ABA., and Residency Assistant Program Director Michael W. Best, MD, FASA.
