Dr. Best completed his anesthesiology residency at UPMC and then completed a three-year active-duty service commitment with the United States Air Force. During that time, he was stationed as faculty at the Air Force’s Center for Sustainment Training in Trauma and Readiness Skills (CSTARS) located within the Saint Louis University School of Medicine. After his active-duty commitment, he completed a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Emory and then worked at Saint Luke’s University Hospital System for a little over a year before returning to UPMC in 2021.
Before taking on the role of Assistant Program Director, he chaired our residency program's Clinical Competency Committee. He also taught extensively at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine as a Longitudinal Educator in the new Three Rivers Curriculum, and he continues to teach physical exam and medical interviewing skills to medical students as a Clinical Skills Preceptor. To better serve the educational mission of our department, Dr. Best is pursuing an EdD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Education.
