Dr. Aman Mahajan is a physician-scientist-leader; an expert in cardiac anesthesiology, perioperative medicine, cardiac electrophysiology, and echocardiography; and a bio-tech inventor and entrepreneur. He is recognized internationally for driving innovative strategies in clinical medicine, health technology, and value-based care.

At the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Mahajan serves as system chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, with additional professorships in biomedical informatics and bioengineering. He serves as the executive director of UPMC’s Perioperative Services and leads UPMC’s Surgical Services.

A successful innovator and investor, Mahajan founded and serves as chief medical and technology officer for startups in the med-tech field. He lends this experience to his role as senior vice president of health innovation, UPMC Enterprises, the innovation, commercialization, and venture capital arm of UPMC.

Dr. Mahajan is an eminent researcher, recognized for key discoveries in cardiovascular medicine and developing novel digital and biosensor technologies. He is primary investigator on multiple NIH grants for his research on translating technologies that improve health. He has published over 250 publications and serves on editorial and scientific boards of leading journals and societies. Dr. Mahajan’s laboratory research focuses on spinal neural modulation of cardiac electrophysiology in heart failure. His research has illuminated potential new therapeutic avenues for preventing sudden cardiac death. With several patents to his name, he has developed AI-enabled wearable biosensors that can accurately monitor and diagnose heart disease.

Dr. Mahajan was previously the endowed professor and chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine and Director of Perioperative Services at UCLA Health. He also served as professor in bioengineering, with an additional faculty role in the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
