WQED Journey to Medicine Program Story Now Online

"A group of African American men and boys sitting around a table watching a lecture"WQED aired a segment featuring Gateway Medical Society's Journey to Medicine (JTM) academic mentorship program in their television series Portrayal & Perception: African American Men and Boys on Monday, March 18 at 7:30 pm. Video of the segment is now available online.

JTM is a pre-college academic mentorship program for African American males in grades six and up with a goal to increase the number of minority males on the path toward careers in medicine by reaching students early in their schooling. William Simmons, MD, Visiting Clinical Associate Professor in the University of Pittsburgh/UPMC Department of Anesthesiology is the President of the Gateway Medical Society (GMS) and The Peter M. Winter Institute for Simulation Education and Research (WISER) has hosted numerous JTM workshops.

WQED videotaped portions of JTM at WISER in February 2013 and student presentations in December 2012.
