Team Wins 2019 Pain Research Challenge Award

"Three men in suits holding an award"

Congratulations to Benedict Alter, MD, PhD; Hendrick Santosa, PhD (Dept. of Radiology); Ajay Wasan, MD, MSc; and Ted Huppert, PhD (Dept. of Radiology), whose project, “Predicting Analgesia with a Brain Biomarker” was chosen as a $50,000 Award Winner in the University of Pittsburgh Clinical and Translational Science Institute 2019 Pain Research Challenge. Teams compete in the Challenge for research funding to find ideas and solutions associated with both physiological and psychological pain. With the award, this team will use functional near-infrared spectroscopy as a brain imaging modality to detect pain relief and identify a functional biomarker of analgesia.
