Congratulations to Maj. William Pileggi, MSN, CRNA, USAR, AN (VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System and casual at UPMC) and student nurse anesthetist and staff member Amanda Beckstead, BSN, RN, CCRN, who were part of the Post-traumatic Stress Disorder/Emergence Delirium Training and Response Team with VA education specialists David Julian, MEd and Michael Boland, Med and honored with a 2020 Gears of Government Award from the US Department of Veterans Affairs. The team was recognized for developing of a safety initiative for patients receiving and staff administering anesthesia to prevent the avoidable risk of emergence delirium. The team has increased safety and reduced injuries in both veterans and staff, and their training program is now mandatory and has been presented locally, state-wide, and nationally.
