Susan B. Niemi, former UPMC Shadyside CRNA Director, Passes Away

We are sad to announce that we lost a cherished department alumna this past week. Susan B. Niemi, former Chief Nurse Anesthetist at UPMC Shadyside, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at age 75. Born on October 9, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Harold and Jean (MacAninch) Baker, Susan graduated from Mount Lebanon High School, University of Pittsburgh, West Penn Nursing School, and Citizens Hospital of New Kensington Anesthetist Program. She worked in the medical field her whole life and later relocated to Palm Coast Florida. Susan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, PA, the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and the Northern Right Whale Watching Group in Marineland, FL. She enjoyed swimming, traveling, mahjong, and walking with her group of dog walkers. Susan is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Eric R. Niemi of Palm Coast, FL; sister, Barbara Baker Price and her husband, David of Cold Springs, FL; and many good friends. She is preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Carl Niemi.

Funeral Services celebrating Susan’s life will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Clymer Funeral Home & Cremations. The family will be receiving guests before the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and on Friday, May 11, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Clymer Funeral Home & Cremations. Susan’s dedication and contributions as a previous CRNA Director at UPMC Shadyside will not be forgotten.  Her warm personality and genuine love of people will be deeply missed.
