Research Team Presents Four Abstracts and Wins Best of Meeting Award at PRACTICE MANAGEMENT 2021

The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) PRACTICE MANAGEMENT™ meeting is considered the premier business event for physician anesthesiologists and practice administrators and among ASA-sponsored events is second in attendance only to the ASA’s Annual Meeting. Our Practice Management Research Team, a group of residents, faculty, CRNAs, and administrators investigating healthcare business and management, presented four abstracts at the meeting, one of which was a top award winner (presenter names bolded):

  • “The Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Operating Room Utilization and Anesthesia Group Productivity in Academic Medical Centers, Community Hospitals, Pediatric Hospital, and Ambulatory Surgery Centers” (authors: Drs. Sheri Wang, Neal Shah, Evan Lebovitz, Mark Hudson) – 2nd Place Winner in the FAER Best of Meeting Competition
  • “A Study of an Academic Chronic Pain Clinic Workflow Using Value-Added Versus Non Value-Added Analysis” (authors: Drs. Sheri Wang, Trent Emerick)
  • “The Effect of Modular Clinical Staffing Assignments on Augmenting Increased COVID Clinical Demand” (authors: Drs. Harry Burke, Evan Lebovitz, Ryan Ball)
  • “Refining Business Strategy through the Development of a Chronic Pain Division Activity System Map” (authors: Dr. Harry Burke, Shannon Morrissey, Dr. Trent Emerick)

Additionally, Mark E. Hudson, MD, MBA, moderated the Table Discussion on “Operating Room Management as the Foundation for Anesthesia Practice Management” and presented the following talks:

  • “Finding and Getting the Job You Want” (with Edward Yaghmour, MD, FASA, from Vanderbilt University Medical Center)
  • “Your Hospital Hired Consultants to Look at Your Staffing Costs. Now What?” (with Amr Abouleish, MD, MBA, FASA, from UTMB Health and Ron Harter, MD, FASA, from The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center)
