Faculty, trainees, alumni, and friends of the University of Pittsburgh/UPMC Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine gathered in San Antonio, Texas, October 11–14 for ANESTHESIOLOGY 2025, the annual meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). This year’s conference provided a dynamic platform for showcasing our department’s leadership, research, and continued commitment to advancing the field of anesthesiology.
As in years past, Pitt Anesthesiology was well represented throughout the meeting. Our faculty, residents, and fellows contributed to the scientific and educational programs through lectures, poster presentations, and workshops. Among the many highlights was Dr. Trent Emerick’s talk, “Perioperative Implications of Psychedelics and Psychostimulants,” which drew a standing-room-only crowd—underscoring the strong national reputation of our department’s educators and clinicians.
Our residents were also actively engaged in the conference, presenting original research and clinical case studies and networking with colleagues from across the country. A special highlight for our training program was a resident dinner at Casa Rio along the iconic San Antonio River Walk. The evening brought together our entire CBY class, along with many other residents and several faculty members, for a night of camaraderie, local cuisine, and shared celebration of academic accomplishments.
One of our most anticipated ASA meeting traditions is the annual alumni reception, which took place this year on Sunday, October 12, at the historic Buckhorn Saloon and Museum in the Toepperwein Room. Alumni, faculty, residents, and friends gathered to reconnect, reminisce, and celebrate the department’s continued success. The event drew 146 attendees, including alumni from as far away as Eastern Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Chicago, New Jersey, North Carolina, Dallas, Minnesota, Kansas, California, and New Mexico. Guests enjoyed a lively evening in a distinctively Texan setting that reinforced the strong sense of community that defines Pitt Anesthesiology.
We are proud of the many contributions our department made to ASA 2025 and grateful for the opportunity to connect with colleagues, collaborators, and alumni. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s meeting a success—we look forward to seeing you again next year in San Diego!
