Dr. Wende Goncz Appointed Clinical Director of Anesthesiology at UPMC Passavant

Congratulations to Wende A. Goncz, DO, MMM, CJCP, who has been formally appointed Clinical Director of Anesthesiology at UPMC Passavant, effective October 1, 2020.

Wende earned her undergraduate degree from Allegheny College and her DO at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She earned a master’s degree in Medical Management (MMM) at Carnegie Mellon University and completed her anesthesiology residency at West Penn Hospital. She is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in our department and serves on our Faculty Professional Practice Review Committee, Committee for Anesthesiology Strategy, Innovation, and Transformation, and Robotics Surgical Committee. Wende is Course Director of Passavant’s Anesthesia Morbidity & Mortality and Risk Management Lecture Series and a Course Instructor for WISER’s Spinal Anesthesia Training for CRNAs. At UPMC Passavant, she is Chairperson of the OR Efficiency Committee and a member of the Professional Practice Evaluation, OR Block, and Tissue and Transfusion committees. Wende is also a member of the UPMC Surgical Services Oversight Committees both locally and system-wide. She serves as the Anesthesia Team Leader of UPMC’s Center of Excellence for Total Joint Replacements and a member of the Joint Commission Pain Standards Committee.

In her role as the UPMC Passavant Clinical Director of Anesthesia Services, Dr. Goncz will help coordinate anesthesia services hospital-wide, management of the daily OR schedule at UPMC Passavant-McCandless, and serve as a department clinical liaison. She will continue her significant clinical OR responsibilities. Dr. Goncz has been informally performing many duties as Clinical Director at Passavant since 2009 and the department is pleased to formalize this role for her and recognize her hard work and dedication to the department.
