Dr. Shiv Goel Appointed UPMC Shadyside Chief Anesthesiologist

Congratulations to Shiv K. Goel, MD, who has been appointed to the position of Chief Anesthesiologist of UPMC Shadyside, effective October 1, 2020, after serving as interim chief since July 2018.

Dr. Goel earned his medical school degree from Seth G.S. Medical College & King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, India. Subsequently, he obtained an MS in orthopedic surgery and completed a fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery at Mumbai University. He completed his anesthesiology residency at the UPMC Department of Anesthesiology in 2006, following which he also completed a fellowship in regional anesthesia and acute pain management at UPMC.

In 2006, Shiv joined the faculty in our department, and since then, he has held numerous leadership roles, including Director of Medical Students, supervising part of the 3rd year anesthesiology clinical perioperative rotation at UPMC Shadyside from 2011 until 2018; Chair of the Competency Committee and member of the evaluation committee of our Regional Anesthesiology & Acute Pain Fellowship Program from 2017 to 2018; and Medical Director of UPMC South Surgery Center since July 2019. Dr. Goel received the award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching from our 2013 graduating resident class as well as the award for Excellence in Teaching from our 2020 graduating regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine fellows.
