"Headshot of Doctor Ball"

Congratulations to Ryan Ball, MD, FASE, who has been appointed Interim Assistant Chief Anesthesiologist at UPMC Passavant, effective November 1, 2020.

Ryan earned both his BS and MD from the University of Kentucky. He completed his anesthesiology residency at UPMC, serving as Chief Resident in 2011, and continued to complete the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship at UPMC the following year. Dr. Ball joined our department’s faculty as an Assistant Professor and attending anesthesiologist at UPMC Presbyterian in 2012 and moved to join the clinical team at Passavant in 2013. At UPMC Passavant, Ryan serves on the Credentialing Committee and the Quality Patient Care Committee. Within the department, he currently serves on our Faculty Professional Practice Review Committee and as a member of the Perioperative COVID Leadership team and the Faculty Clinical Advisory Group. Ryan has been Director of the Resident TEE Rotation at Passavant since 2013 and ERAS Program Director/Champion at Passavant since 2016. In 2018, he was appointed a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE). This December, Ryan will complete his Executive MBA training at the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business.

As Assistant Site Chief, Ryan will assist in coordination of anesthesia services hospital-wide, back up the Clinical Director in managing the daily OR schedule, and assist and support Dr. Dan Sullivan and Dr. Wende Goncz in their roles within the department and hospital.

We commend Dr. Ball for his appointment to this role at Passavant and wish him the best in this new leadership position.
