Our founding chair Dr. Peter Safar was honored as one of only five University of Pittsburgh faculty members featured in an interactive display on the 5th floor of Scaife Hall, the home of Pitt’s School of Medicine.

The new installation, one of many exciting enhancements made as part of Scaife Hall’s ongoing renovations, includes a large overhead display screen that scrolls through photos and information about each of the five honored scientists’ greatest accomplishments. It also includes walk-up kiosks with interactive touch-screen monitors where people can learn more about each scientist’s monumental contributions to medicine.

The display broadcasts Dr. Safar’s many career highlights, which include pioneering CPR, establishing one of the first multidisciplinary ICUs in the US, organizing emergency response units and establishing national emergency guidelines and standards, and founding the Safar Center for Resuscitation Research.
