Dr. Keith Vogt Honored with Allen Humphrey Excellence in Medical Student Research Mentoring Award

We are proud to announce that Keith M. Vogt, MD, PhD, FASA, Associate Professor of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine, Bioengineering, and Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Pittsburgh, has been selected as the sole recipient of the 2025 Allen Humphrey Excellence in Medical Student Research Mentoring Award from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Dr. Vogt was chosen from a pool of more than 100 faculty mentors who supported students through the Dean’s Summer Research Program (DSRP). The award recognizes faculty who demonstrate exemplary commitment to student research mentorship, a standard that Dr. Vogt not only meets but exceeds. His dedication to fostering rigorous, inclusive, and student-centered learning experiences was powerfully reflected in the nomination letter submitted by second-year medical student Taylor Duffy, who worked with Dr. Vogt as his mentee during his DSRP in the summer of 2025.

“Dr. Vogt is generous with his time, exacting in his science, and deeply human in his mentorship,” Duffy wrote. “He meets students where they are, equips them with knowledge and confidence, and opens doors so they can walk farther than they thought possible.” Taylor’s nomination highlighted Dr. Vogt’s consistent efforts to create welcoming, growth-oriented environments not only within his own lab but across the broader academic and clinical landscape of the department.

In addition to directing our department’s Anesthesiology Neuroscience Research Program, Dr. Vogt has long been recognized for his collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to mentorship and education. This is the second time the School of Medicine has honored him for mentorship; he also received the Medical Student Research Mentoring Merit Award at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Class of Scholars Day in April of 2024.

Congratulations to Dr. Vogt on this well-deserved recognition of his outstanding mentorship and enduring impact on the next generation of physician-scientists.
