Dr. Daniela Damian Promoted to Associate Professor

Daniela Damian, MD

We are very pleased to announce the promotion of Daniela Damian, MD, to Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, effective June 1, 2025.

Dr. Damian completed her anesthesiology residency and multiple fellowships at UPMC, with specializations in liver transplant, pediatric, and pediatric cardiac anesthesiology. Since joining our faculty in 2014, she has been a cornerstone of the clinical team at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP), serving as Director of Pediatric Transplant Anesthesiology since 2017. In this role, she has guided anesthetic care for pediatric liver transplant patients and led advancements in protocols and interdisciplinary coordination. Her contributions to the Liver Transplantation Selection Committee and the Transplant Quality Council have been instrumental in improving transplant outcomes at CHP.

A prolific researcher, Dr. Damian has authored 27 peer-reviewed articles, 10 book chapters, and over 70 abstracts for scientific meetings, primarily focused on liver transplantation anesthesiology. Her scholarly impact is complemented by her dedication to mentoring the next generation of researchers and clinicians.

Her excellence in teaching has earned accolades, including the 2023 Excellence in Contribution to Resident Education award. She is a frequent lecturer and workshop leader at national and international forums, recognized widely for her expertise in pediatric and transplant anesthesiology.

Dr. Damian is an active member of key professional societies such as the International Liver Transplantation Society, the International Pediatric Transplant Association, and the Society for Advancement in Transplant Anesthesia. Her leadership within these organizations has influenced national policies and educational standards in transplant anesthesia.
