Department Workshop Teaches Cardiac and Lung Ultrasound Skills

"A presentation being given"

We held a Focused Cardiac and Lung Ultrasound Workshop for our department’s faculty at the Herberman Conference Center at UPMC Shadyside on Saturday, October 5, 2019. Kathirvel Subramaniam, MD, MPH, FASE (Course Director); Dennis Phillips, DO; Ezeldeen Abuelkasem, MBBCh, MSc; Daniel Mandell, MD; and Mourad Senussi, MBBCh (Department of Medicine, Cardiology) participated as workshop faculty. Twenty-five faculty members from various UPMC hospitals (Presbyterian-Shadyside, Magee Women’s Hospital, Mercy, and St. Margaret) participated and learned point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) skills. The workshop featured brief lectures followed by a hands-on workshop on standardized patients. The response to this educational event was robust. Following the conference, attendees stated that they would incorporate POCUS skills in their program to improve patient care.
