The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), an educational, research, and scientific association of physicians organized to raise and maintain medical practice standards of anesthesiology and improve patient care, is one of the largest and most influential professional societies in the specialty. The ASA Annual Meeting features new scientific developments, technology, and challenging cases in the field of anesthesiology. This year, over 14,000 peers, thought leaders, and anesthesia providers from more than 80 countries are expected to attend the conference.

An impressive number of medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty from our department participate in the ASA meeting every year. ANESTHESIOLOGY 2018 will be held October 13-17 in San Francisco, CA. Department members will deliver 62 presentations, and 24 faculty members and two fellows will serve on ASA and ASA-related committees. Also, our team “UPMC Pavement Pushers” is participating in and raising funds for the ASA-sponsored “Run for the Warriors” on October 14.

Our yearly alumni reception is scheduled for Sunday, October 14th from 6-9 pm at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, Yerba Buena Salons 1 and 2. Invitations have been sent to all department members and alumni; we ask that all invitees please RSVP to AnesEducation@upmc.edu by October 3, 2018.

Our 2018 ASA flier (PDF) lists all department presentations and participation in committees at the 2018 meeting.
