Our department, along with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Center for Continuing Education in the Health Sciences, hosted the 14th Annual Pennsylvania Anesthesiology Resident Research Conference (PARRC) on May 4, 2019 at UPMC Passavant Cumberland Woods Village Legacy Theater Conference Center. PARRC is an annual forum for residents from programs across the state of Pennsylvania to present original research and case reports and win awards for the top presentations. This year marked the second time our department hosted the event after hosting PARRC 2014 at UPMC Shadyside.

Over 110 faculty members and residents attended the conference and residents submitted an overall total of 82 abstracts (43 original research and 39 case reports). Residents from our program submitted 21 original research abstracts and four case reports, and five original research abstracts and two case reports submitted by our residents were selected among the top 10 oral presentations in each category.

Course Director Tetsuro Sakai, MD, PhD, MHA, FASA and Associate Course Director Phillip Adams, DO were instrumental in making PARRC 2019 a success, along with our department chair Aman Mahajan, MD, PhD, MBA and Vice Chair for Education and Faculty Affairs David G. Metro, MD, FASA, who presented awards and gave opening and closing remarks, as well as Conference Manager Barb Chismar and Senior Administrative Assistant Susan Shelton. Faculty from programs across the state of PA participated as judges, reviewing abstracts and selecting the award-winning presentations. From our department, Drs. Phil Adams, Kim Howard-Quijano, and Stephen McHugh were abstract judges; Dr. Jim Ibinson helped judge the original research oral presentations; Drs. Jim Ibinson and A. Murat Kaynar were judges for the original research posters; and Drs. Stephen McHugh and Keith Vogt served as case report poster judges.

Congratulations to all the PARRC 2019 award winners!
