ASA ADVANCE 2023

"Three photos of Samuel Kosinski, Kimberly Cantees, and Evan Lebovitz presenting at a podium in front of a virtual poster"The annual ASA ADVANCE meeting, previously the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Practice Management Meeting, is considered the ultimate business event for physician anesthesiologists and practice administrators and among ASA-sponsored events, is second in attendance only to the ASA Annual Meeting. The conference focuses on strategies for anesthesiology practices to ensure financial and business success and features topics such as quality, technology, wellness, human resources, and economics.

ASA ADVANCE 2023: The Anesthesiology Business Event took place January 27-29 in Orlando, FL. Per tradition, our Practice Management Research Team, a group of residents, faculty, and CRNAs investigating healthcare business and management, had a strong presence at the meeting. The team presented five posters, one of which won an award, as well as presented lectures and participated in meeting sessions (listed below, presenter names bolded):

Dr. Mark Hudson also serves as a member of the ASA Committee on Practice Management, which is responsible for the planning of ASA ADVANCE.

In addition, our residents Sheri Wang, MD (PGY-3), and Harold Burke, MD (PGY-4), were two of only 12 residents nationally chosen to receive Emerging Leaderships Scholarships to attend ASA ADVANCE 2023. The scholarship recognizes outstanding anesthesiology residents who demonstrate aptitude and portray interest in leadership and practice management. Drs. Burke and Wang participated in several roundtable discussions during the conference focusing on future obstacles within the changing landscapes of anesthesia practice management.
