2020 SATA Scientific Meeting Recap

Tetsuro Sakai, MD, PhD, MHA, FASA, and Kathirvel Subramaniam, MD, MPH, FASE, along with Sathish Kumar, MD, and Amy Young, MD, from the University of Michigan, organized the 2020 Inaugural MidState Society for the Advancement of Transplantation Anesthesia (SATA) Scientific Meeting on September 19, 2020 via Zoom.

The SATA regional meeting for transplant anesthesiologists, intensivists, transplant surgeons, residents, fellows, and other medical specialists provided attendees with an updated knowledge on several critical management issues in abdominal and thoracic transplant patients. Registration was free and CME credit was made available for attendees.

In addition to Drs. Sakai, Subramaniam, Kumar, and Young, the meeting presenters were Nick Douville, MD, PhD, (University of Michigan Medical Center); Manoj Iyer, MD, (The Ohio State University-Wexner Medical Center); Mariya Geube, MD, (Anesthesiology Institute, Cleveland Clinic); David J. Kaczorowski, MD, (University of Maryland Medical Center); Daniel Cormican, MD, FCCP (Allegheny Health Network); and from our department, Erin A. Sullivan, MD, D.ABA, FASA; Joshua Knight, MD; and Daniel Mandell, MD.

Dr. Sullivan moderated the Cardiac Transplantation Session and Drs. Knight and Mandell presented the lectures “The Right Problems! Pulmonary Artery Pressure, Pulmonary Emboli, and RV Function” and “Utility of Cardiac POCUS for Transplantation Anesthesiologists,” respectively, as part of a TEE and POCUS Bootcamp.

Dr. Sakai is currently President-Elect of SATA and Dr. Subramaniam currently serves as a SATA Executive Counselor.
