Presentations at ASA® ADVANCE 2022

The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) ADVANCE (previously Practice Management) meeting is considered the premier business event for physician anesthesiologists and practice administrators and among ASA-sponsored events is second in attendance only to the ASA Annual Meeting. ASA® ADVANCE 2022: The Anesthesiology Business Event was held January 28-30 in Dallas, Texas. Seven of the meeting’s 12 total posters were from our Practice Management Research Team, a group of residents, faculty, and CRNAs investigating healthcare business and management (posters listed below, presenter names bolded). Of the six total posters selected for judging for the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) Best of Meeting Competition, four were from our team.

Work by David F. Nelson, MD, MBA, one of our previous residents and a former member of our Practice Management Research Team who is now at Jefferson University Hospitals, was also selected as part of the FAER competition.

The research presented by Dr. Cantees on surgical scheduling was the focus of an ASA press release, resulting in publicity in press outlets such as News MedicalBecker’s ASC ReviewOR Manager, and EurekAlert.

Additionally, Mark E. Hudson, MD, MBA, was a lead speaker at the “Ask the Expert” Session, “Defining Your Value: Negotiating Hospital and Group Contracts and Productivity Incentives for Groups and Individuals in a Changing, Challenging, Competitive Environment: Residents, Fellows, and Young Physicians.” Dr. Hudson also serves as a member of the ASA Committee on Practice Management.
