PCORI to Fund Dissemination & Implementation Project

"Headshot of Doctor Wasan"

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) recently authorized funding for the project "Implementing Contextual Factors Assessment in Clinical and Research Settings." Carol Greco, PhD, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is the project’s principal investigator (PI) and Ajay D. Wasan, MD, MSc is a co-PI on the project.

The new project continues work from a previous PCORI study in which the investigators developed and used the Healing Encounters and Attitudes Lists (HEAL) context factors assessments using PROMIS® methodology to measure patient’s perspectives on their healthcare experiences while in chronic pain treatment. This tool is for patients to rate their expectations for treatment and other factors important to them in a therapeutic relationship with their physician. The new project will implement the HEAL questionnaires in UPMC Pain Medicine clinics as well as research settings to improve the care experiences of patients and their healthcare providers. The project’s secondary goal is to implement HEAL and related PROMIS assessments into research studies at the University of Pittsburgh and nationally through HealthMeasures/PROMIS as well as Department of Psychiatry research platforms.
