Pitt and UPMC Staff to Unite for White Coats Against Racism & Injustice Event

Please join Pitt and UPMC on May 25, 2023 for the White Coats Against Racism & Injustice Event. The purpose of this event is to unify against hatred and violence based on race within our Black, Brown, and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities.

The Department of Medicine, Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and other sponsors invite our communities to stand with them in unity on the UPMC Montefiore Lawn. Event information and agenda are below. 

Various UPMC hospitals and sites are also planning to hold observances at their locations as well. Please check your site for specific details.

White Coats Against Racism & Injustice Event, May 25, 12:50 pm - 1:30 pm

Join us on May 25, 2023 for the White Coats Against Racism & Injustice Event on the UPMC Montefiore Lawn. Please join us as we kneel for 9 minutes and 29 seconds in solidarity at 1:15 pm (the anniversary of George Floyd’s death). The purpose of this event is to unify against hatred and violence based on race within our Black, Brown, and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities.

The tentative agenda for this event includes:

  • 12:50 pm – Performance by CAPA jazz choir
  • 12:55 pm - 1:14 pm – Remarks by Anantha Shekhar, MD, PhD, Naudia Jonassaint, MD and Rickquel Tripp, MD, MPH, CDR, USNR from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
  • 1:15 pm 1:24 pm – Unified kneel by everyone
  • 1:25 pm – 1:30 pm – Closing remarks by community member Felicia Savage Friedman

Two food trucks will also be available at the event to provide FREE food.
