Congratulations to Molly S. Galbraith, MSN, CRNA, and Julie D. Ging, MSN, CRNA, both CRNAs at UPMC Presbyterian, who were chosen as winners of UPMC Physician Services’ “The Extra Mile” Quarter 2 Award. The Extra Mile Award honors individuals who go above and beyond their job duties, maintain a high office morale, and actively demonstrate UPMC’s values.
Molly and Julie were recognized for their compassionate and thoughtful actions during the sad and unexpected passing of Les Watson, a fellow CRNA in their department. They coordinated a “grief intervention,” working as a liaison between their lost colleague’s family and the Presbyterian anesthesiology department. They assisted with the family’s needs, set-up multiple memorial photos, sent notifications throughout the department, and coordinated a visit with Les’s family and grandchildren to see and learn about where he worked.
In the words of the person who submitted the nomination: “This experience was very emotional and healing for both the family and our department. Molly and Julie's actions were above and beyond and were very important to Les’s family and our department’s grieving process.”
