The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine hosted its sixth annual fundraiser to support Light of Life Rescue Mission on Saturday, March 28, 2026, welcoming the arrival of spring at Phipps Conservatory while raising critical support for individuals experiencing homelessness and opioid addiction in the Pittsburgh region.

Organized by Anesthesiology Residency Junior Chiefs of Advocacy Morgan Zopp, MD, and David Brinton, MD, the event was open to the public and brought together members of the department alongside community supporters.

Proceeds from ticket sales and additional donations benefited Light of Life Rescue Mission, a local nonprofit that provides emergency housing, job training, and warm meals to individuals and families in need, many of whom are impacted by substance use disorders, including opioid addiction.

The fundraiser drew more than 100 attendees, including faculty, certified registered nurse anesthetists, residents, fellows, staff, and alumni of the department, as well as their guests. The strong turnout reflected the department’s continued commitment to service and community engagement beyond the clinical setting.

Students from Carlow University Master’s in Professional Counseling Program, Addictions Counseling Impact Workforce Project volunteered throughout the evening, earning academic credit for community service while supporting an event centered on education and advocacy for substance use and recovery. Volunteers Hannah Burtner, Anna Leonard (and guest), Nancy Mosqueda played key roles in assembling raffle baskets, decorating tables, and staffing the registration desk, helping to ensure the event ran smoothly.

The success of the fundraiser was made possible through the generosity of donors and contributors, including numerous local businesses that provided in‑kind donations. These partnerships added to the evening’s raffle offerings and overall experience.

Now in its sixth year, the annual fundraiser continues to serve as an opportunity for the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine to support a vital community organization while bringing together colleagues, friends, and neighbors in a shared mission of compassion and care.
