It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our former CRNA colleague, Amy Jo Berresford, on Monday, February 9, 2026, following a courageous 13‑month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 73.
Born on August 9, 1952, in Beaver Falls, PA, Amy was raised in Darlington and built an impressive academic and professional foundation that guided her long and impactful career. She graduated from Northwestern High School in 1970 and went on to complete her nursing degree at Butler County Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1972. Amy continued to advance her education with a certificate from the University Health Center of Pittsburgh School of Anesthesia for Nurses (1983), followed by degrees from California University of Pennsylvania (1986) and La Roche College, where she earned her master’s in human resources management in 1997.
Amy practiced in multiple Pittsburgh hospitals before spending more than 20 years as a CRNA at UPMC Magee-Women’s Hospital, where she served with skill, compassion, and professionalism until her retirement in 2018. Beyond her clinical work, she remained deeply engaged in service. She served on the board of Cribs for Kids, receiving their 13th Annual Women of Achievement Award, and after retirement, she devoted her time as a volunteer with Family House of Pittsburgh and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. She was also an active member of Mary, Queen of Peace Parish, where she generously volunteered during the Lenten Fish Fry.
Amy was known for her warmth, friendship, and genuine love of people. She enjoyed reading, the theater, symphony, and Broadway productions; and traveling across the U.S. and abroad. Above all, her family and friends meant the world to her.
