Dr. Kristin Ondecko Ligda Inspires Students at Shattuck-St. Mary’s

Two women stand at the front of a lecture hall speaking to a group of students. One woman is Dr. Kristin Ondecko Ligda, who wears a black blazer over a bright pink top, and the other woman wears a white lab coat. A presentation slide projected behind them reads, "So You Want to Be a Bio/Chem/PreMed Major? Explore Opportunities to Make a Difference in Healthcare," with speaker details including Dr. Kristin Ondekco Ligda from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The students are seated in tiered rows, attentively watching the presentation.

Kristin M. Ondecko Ligda, MD, FASA, Assistant Professor and Staff Anesthesiologist and Residency Site Director at UPMC Mercy, recently visited Shattuck-St. Mary’s School. During her time in the BioScience class, she taught students essential anesthesia skills like securing the airway and intubation, providing them with hands-on training using manikins.

Later, Dr. Ondecko gave a talk titled "So you want to be a Bio/Chem/Pre-Med major?" at the WeCreate Center. Students filled the room, eager to learn about academic and career options in science and healthcare. Dr. Ondecko shared insights from her experience, helping students understand potential future pathways in these fields.

A student with short purple hair practices a medical procedure using a laryngoscope on an airway management training mannequin, while Dr. Kristin Ondecko Ligda, in a black blazer and bright pink top, observes and provides guidance. Other students watch in the background in a classroom setting with medical training equipment on the table.

The community appreciated her willingness to share knowledge and engage with students. Dr. Ondecko's visit emphasized the importance of support in guiding the next generation of professionals. Thank you, Dr. Ondecko Ligda, for your commitment to community engagement and helping shape future leaders!
