
Kimberly Howard-Quijano, MD, MS, FASE, FAHA, Associate Professor, Associate Vice Chair for Research, Director of Translational Research, and Academic Chief of Cardiac Anesthesiology in our department, has been named Section Editor for Cardiovascular Pathophysiology and Outcomes for Anesthesia & Analgesia (A&A).
A&A is a leading, peer reviewed journal and the flagship publication of the International Anesthesia Research Society. Published monthly since 1922, the journal is internationally recognized for advancing research and clinical practice in anesthesiology, perioperative medicine, critical care, and pain management. As Section Editor, Dr. Howard Quijano will help shape the journal’s scientific direction by overseeing peer review and curating high impact research related to cardiovascular pathophysiology and patient outcomes.
Dr. Howard Quijano’s appointment reflects her national reputation in cardiovascular anesthesiology research and outcomes focused investigation. Since joining the University of Pittsburgh in 2018, she has developed a robust, multidisciplinary research portfolio spanning basic, translational, and clinical science. Her work has contributed important insights into cardiac structure function assessment, neuromodulation of ventricular arrhythmias, and mechanisms underlying postoperative complications. She has authored or coauthored over 65 peer reviewed publications and has received funding from the National Institutes of Health and leading professional societies.
Previously serving as an Assistant Editor for Anesthesia & Analgesia, Dr. Howard Quijano continues to expand her editorial leadership while advancing our department’s research mission as Associate Vice Chair for Research. Her selection highlights both her individual contributions and the growing national and international impact of our cardiovascular anesthesiology and research programs.
