On December 13, 2025, a team of volunteers from our department joined the Best of the Batch Foundation's annual Batch-A-Toys event, wrapping toys and household items for families in need throughout the Pittsburgh region. Boris Anyama, MD, Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, coordinated the department's volunteer group for this community service effort.

Batch-A-Toys is an initiative of the Best of the Batch Foundation, founded by former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch. The program supports more than 400 families across multiple counties by providing toys for children, essential household items for adults, and holiday meal baskets. The event brings together over 1,400 volunteers who contribute more than 3,500 hours to wrap approximately 8,000 donated toys and household items.

The department's participation in Batch-A-Toys continues a tradition of community engagement during the holiday season, joining neighbors and organizations across Pittsburgh in supporting local families.
