UPMC Shadyside’s Herberman Auditorium was filled with energy on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at our annual “Pathway to Becoming a CRNA: A Networking Event for Ambitious RNs.” The half-day, in‑person program brought together registered nurses from across the region who are interested in advancing their careers in nurse anesthesia. The event attracted 75 total attendees, including 56 registered nurses, 11 practicing CRNAs, and eight CRNA leaders.
Led by Senior CRNA Director Toni Orsino, MBA, CRNA, the program aimed to explain the CRNA career path and the steps to apply to CRNA school. Sessions included panels and discussions with experienced CRNAs, educators, and departmental leaders covering academic preparation, critical care experience, interview readiness, and daily life as a CRNA.
The morning offered time for questions, small‑group conversations, and direct networking with CRNA leaders and clinicians, helping attendees connect with mentors and local resources.
Following the event, organizers received enthusiastic feedback from prospective CRNA students:
“I just wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude to you for helping to plan and execute such a wonderful event for those interested in CRNA school. The event solidified my desire to go to school and provided increased clarity on my future. I am immensely thankful for it.”
“It was extremely helpful and I really enjoyed connecting with the CRNA programs and learning more about the career. I truly appreciate all the effort you put into making it such a valuable experience.”
Now an annual event, Pathway to Becoming a CRNA continues to support professional growth, mentorship, and workforce development in nurse anesthesia by providing clear guidance and access to leaders in the field.
