Department of Anesthesiology

April 6, 2017 - 10:30am to April 8, 2017 - 4:00pm

CARACT (Italian acronym standing for Congress Update in Intensive Care and Cardiothoracic/Vascular Anesthesiology) is a conference for anesthetists who work in intensive care, particularly in the cardiothoracic-vascular sector. This year, a joint venture between ISMETT (the Mediterranean Institute for Transplantation and Advanced Specialized Therapies) and Pitt/UPMC Anesthesiology has combined CARACT and MedTASS (Mediterranean Transplantation Anesthesiology and Simulation Symposium) into one single event. Antonio F. Arcadipane, MD and Raymond M. Planinsic, MD established MedTASS in 2009; this will be the 5th symposium. MedTASS is held every other year; prior symposiums took place in 2009, 2011, 2013, and 2015.

The conference will be an important crossroads where many consultants, anesthetists, surgeons, cardiologists, internists, infectologists, radiologists, perfusion technicians and nurses can meet and discuss issues in order to find mutually agreed solutions to the problems faced by critical care patients; in short, a whole range of issues regarding anesthesia and intensive care that will certainly interest members of the national and international medical community.

Presenters from the Pitt/UPMC Department of Anesthesiology include Howard B. Gutstein, MD; Mark E. Hudson, MD, MBA; David G. Metro, MD; Joseph J. Quinlan, MD, and Raymond M. Planinsic, MD.
